2009 Saturn Sky is Sexy, Soulful
Michael Andre Adams from the Atlanta Autos Examiner: For the style aficionado seeking a sexy, soulful, al fresca style whip for well under $50K, the Saturn Sky Red Line should be somewhere on your "fav-five" list, alongside BMW's Z4 and Mazda's MX-5. Under the hood, the Red Line has a 260 horsepower, four cylinder, 2.0 liter turbo engine that purrs along and kicks in when needed. For what it is--a car for casual, al fresca riding, it's nice, especially if speed aint really your speed. While some...
Bolt-Ons Help a Saturn Sky Red Line Prove it Has More in Common with the C6 Than Just its Body Style
Brendan Moran from GM High-Tech Performance: Thankfully the engineers at GM did their homework before adding boost to the Ecotec mill. Instead of simply adapting the 2.4L mill in the naturally aspirated base model, the Red Line features the LNF Ecotec 2.0t. Cranking out 260 hp and 260 lb-ft at the flywheel, the 122-cid four-banger extracts an amazing 2.1 horsepower per cubic inch of displacement-making it GM's highest specific output engine ever. The engineers were able to achieve this by combin...
Last Kappa Roadster Built Today as GM Shutters Delaware Plant
Andrew Eder from the Delaware News Journal: Today marks the last day of production at General Motors' Boxwood Road assembly plant. The 62-year-old factory near Newport was a victim of the automaker's restructuring that has claimed tens of thousands of jobs and will close or idle 14 plants in the next three years. GM said June 1 – the same day it filed for bankruptcy protection – that it would close the local plant by the end of July. Workers at Boxwood Road built the Pontiac Solstice and Sat...
Saturn Sky: Time to Put the Top Down and Cruise
The Sky, a two-seat roadster like the Miata, starts at $26,400. It's one of two small GM convertibles built on the same architecture; the other is the Pontiac Solstice. Base models come with a 2.4-liter, 173-horsepower four-cylinder engine, connected to a five-speed Aisin manual transmission or an optional five-speed automatic. The uplevel Red Line, though, has a 260-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder. The manually operated soft top folds completely into the trunk.
Sky Red Line is Fun, Pretty
David Schmidt from the Journal Register News Service: This car is about having fun on a sunny day. That means you put the top down, back it down the driveway and as long as quick rain showers don’t appear, you’re in business. Under these glorious conditions, the Saturn Sky really shines. I’m one of those people who really like roadsters; I like the cocoon-like feeling of being in one. The car’s interior really wraps around you, making it feel like a part of you — a really attractive, a...
Zippy Saturn Sky Deserves to Survive GM Woes
Steven Cole Smith from the Orlando Sentinel: It's interesting that the test car, a 2009 Saturn Sky sports car, has only been on the market for a few years, but is the oldest product in the Saturn lineup. Based on the same platform as the similar Pontiac Solstice — another brand with an uncertain future — the Sky is a little more upscale than the Pontiac. New for 2009 in this particular model's trim package is a dark "ruby red" exterior with dark accent stripes on the hood and trunk. It's han...
