My best Saturn experience was probably when I actually bought my SC2 in the summer of 2000.

Shortly after my wife and I got married we decided that we finally needed to buy a car. Up to this point, we had walked, biked, or taken the bus anywhere we needed to go.

The thing about safety features is, you never know when you might need them. One single minute of my life changed the way I think about words like "spaceframes" and "crossbars" and "crumple zones."

I actually have two memorable stories about buying and owning a Saturn. The first story sets up the next and is rather funny.

This isn't a story where my Saturn saved my life, but it did save me some money!

We were coming over a hill approaching a railroad crossing, when we saw a car waiting there and a train traveling along the tracks. To avoid hitting the car and pushing it into the train I went down the right side of the road into the ditch and hit the train head-on!

This is a story about the different kind of car. I guess not only is the SL2 a different kind of car, but I really am a different kind of owner. I drag race my SL2 for competition. My favorite story to tell is the night I won my ticket to Indy and being at Indy.

My best Saturn experience came, when I actually got to drive the LS, it was almost 9 months ago. You see I used to work at the Wilmington plant where the LS is being produced.

My story is a little more serious. When my son, who drives like a young male, graduated from high school I bought him a '93 SC2 (black with everything). Seeing a Saturn on the evening news after it had an unexpected meeting with a semi on a nearby bridge convinced me (the driver was standing next to what was left of the car doing an interview).

I went to the Virginia International Auto Show in Richmond twice this weekend, both on Saturday and Sunday.

In late May of 1995, I made the mistake of paying off my 1991 Saturn SL2.

In June of 1995, my first saturn was killed. I must have offended some great karmic gods, since my replacement car, a 1995 Saturn SL2, was killed on April Fool's Day, 1996. Really. This is no joke.

I found a 92 SL2 that was equipped quite nicely at a Pontiac dealer, and I bought it. The hassles started with the dealer right off the bat - dickering over price, warranty, financing - it all left a bad taste in my mouth.
