Restyled for 2001, the Saturn SC2 sporty coupe adds more standard equipment and new, optional head curtain airbags. It continues to be powered by a 124 horsepower 1.9 litre DOHC 4 cylinder engine, and offers a fully independent suspension.

The new SC's exterior sports a new look. Larger headlamps, turn signals and daytime running lights give the front end a bolder look, while the rear end features new tail lamps and back-up lamps.

Saturn's SC coupe is more "sporty" than "sports," especially when equipped with an automatic transmission. But it has its own distinctive style, revised this year, and offers more practicality than any other coupe thanks to its standard third door.

I recently checked out a 2001 Saturn coupe. All the coupes now have the clever feature Saturn pioneered a year ago, a hideaway third door.

Saturn continues to win high marks for providing the best sales and service experience in the industry. Its entry-level S-series models are beginning to look a little long in the tooth, but they’re still reasonably well-equipped and attractively priced. Safety options include side air curtains, antilock brakes and traction control.
