A Saturn Takes Its Place Among The Stars (Visit this link)
Matt Pillow, sales manager at Saturn of Hartford, says the Astra's reception in Greater Hartford has been extremely positive. "It is a great new face of our store and the brand," he said. The Astra comes in two body styles and two trim levels. The basic XE is offered only in the five-door hatchback model. The better-equipped XR is available in the three-door or five-door version. "Right now, I'd have to say that it is 60/40 in favor of the five-door," Pillow said of buyer preferences. "It's about 50/50 right down the middle between XE and XR." XE buyers will be forgiven if they fail to feel that they have chosen the basic model. Standard features include a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, cruise control, heated power mirrors, power remote control locks, power windows, a highly competent audio system and trip computer, rain-sensing wipers and OnStar. XR models also offer air conditioning, an audio system upgrade with the most important audio controls duplicated on the steering wheel, fog lights and alloy wheels. Three-door XR sport coupes also come with standard stability and traction control and a sport suspension system with 17-inch alloy wheels. "The most popular options are air conditioning, the sunroof and StabiliTrak [GM's name for stability control]," Pillow said. The sunroof is particularly impressive. Available only in the five-door, it consists of a tinted glass panel over both rows of seats. A power-operated sunshade is standard and the front half of the power-operated roof slides up and over the top to provide a near-convertible experience for the front-seat passengers. "It makes the car feel larger," he said.
