Saturn's Astra Hatchback Out of this World (Visit this link)
Saturn's successful strategy of importing Opels from Europe and rebadging them as Saturns continues to work. First it was the Vue sport utility. Now its Saturn's new entry-level car, the Astra. This should be a hit. Astra is a fine small car with good fit and finish, a solid feel and excellent fuel economy. There are a few issues, but overall, it's GM's finest small car yet. Astra was designed by Opel in Germany, and the car is built at a plant in Antwerp, Belgium. It already has been successful in Europe as both an Opel and a Vauxhall. Here, it will remind most folks of a Volkswagen Rabbit from a style perspective. My test car was a black Astra XE 5-door, what most of us would call a hatchback. There also is a much sportier-looking coupe. All are reasonably priced. At roughly $16 grand, the Astra provides a small family with a solid car that features good ride and power and excellent fuel economy. This puts Saturn solidly back into the entry-level market, which is increasingly competitive.
