Some Side Air Bags In '02 Autos Fall Short The new NHTSA data show door-mounted bags, like those used in many Mercedes and BMW models, exceeded the acceptable injury levels in five out of five cars tested using a dummy the size of a 3-year-old. Head air bags and curtains have met that standard more easily, prompting Ford and others to consider changing from more powerful seat bags. Saturn offers head curtain air bags on all of its cars.
