2001 Finishes As Second-Biggest Vehicle Sales Year
Saturn saw its annual sales drop 4%. Sales of the Spring Hill-produced S-series were down 8.6% annually while sales were up 4.5% for the L-series cars, which are made in Delaware. The company also reported selling 393 of its new Vue sport utility vehicles in December, the first month they were offered.
April 2002 Saturn Sales Rise 4.5%
Saturn's April sales rose 4.5% to 25,121 units, up from 23,084 last year. Year-to-date sales for Saturn totalled 82,559, which was down 7.6% from this time last year when retailers had sold 89,317 cars.
As Car Sales Volume Falls, So Too Does Productivity
Slow car sales and a no-layoff policy have combined to give Saturn Corp. a poor score when it comes to productivity. The division of General Motors, which operates an assembly plant in Spring Hill, is under pressure to be more productive and more profitable as it begins the launch of its new sport-utility vehicle this summer and three other new models over the next two years.

Saturn's August sales rose 21.9% to 21,619 units, up from 17,099 last year. Year-to-date sales for Saturn totalled 193,161, up 5.3% from this time last year when retailers sold 183,433 cars.
