Penske Expected to Return Saturn to its Innovative Roots (Visit this link)
Ned Hunter from JacksonSun.com: Mike Rowand, facility manager at Saturn of Jackson, said if anyone can save the Saturn automobile brand, it's Roger Penske. Still, Penske faces an uphill battle to save Saturn. General Motors will continue to build Saturn's Aura, Outlook and the Vue for Penske until 2011 and perhaps longer under the terms of the proposed deal, Rowand said. During that time, however, Penske will have to find designs that will once again set Saturn apart if he wants loyal buyers to stay with the brand and entice new ones, said John Wolkonowicz, senior auto analyst for research firm IHS Global Insight. Wolkonowicz believes Penske eventually will remove the larger vehicles from Saturn lots and re-enter the small car market that it once nearly dominated. Not shifting fast enough from its small, inexpensive car image was part of what hurt Saturn's future, Wolkonowicz said. The company failed to increase its offerings as customers began looking for larger, more expensive vehicles until it was too late.
