Syracuse Saturn Retailer Ready to Leave Shrinking GM Galaxy (Visit this link)
Rick Moriarty from the Post-Standard: When he bought the two Saturn dealerships in Onondaga County in 2006, Emmanuel Boykin planned to move both into a brand-new facility, built with green technology, in the Syracuse area. Then, six months ago, General Motors dropped a bomb of sorts on Boykin's plans. Then-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rick Wagoner said the company planned to drop its Saturn, Pontiac, Saab and Hummer brands as part of the struggling carmaker's efforts to survive. Boykin immediately put on hold plans to build a new store. He closed his Saturn store on Route 31 in Clay last summer, but he is still selling and servicing cars from his Saturn of Syracuse dealership. "When I look at all the things going on with GM, I think it's important to separate us from that," he said. "GM may be filing for bankruptcy, but Saturn is not. We have a following and a customer base that's phenomenal." Boykin said he welcomes the possibility of Saturn operating under a new owner so that it once again can be viewed by its original advertising slogan, "A Different Kind of Company. A Different Kind of Car."
