GM Laying Off More Workers in Delaware (Visit this link)
Andrew Eder from the Delaware News Journal: In the midst of a fight for survival, General Motors Corp. is laying off more workers in Delaware as the automaker slows production at its Boxwood Road assembly plant. GM spokesman John Raut said 90 employees will be affected by a "re-rate" at the 62-year-old factory near Newport, where the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky are assembled. The plant is idle this week to implement the re-rate, which will cut production at the plant from 7.5 jobs per hour to 4.5 jobs per hour. GM said that it sees some signs of life in the auto market -- its March sales were down 45 percent compared with a year ago, but up 23 percent from February levels. The numbers remained dismal for the Delaware-built roadsters, however. Sales of the Solstice in March dropped 74 percent from a year ago to 317 vehicles. Sales of the Sky were down nearly 80 percent to 240 vehicles.
