Genaral Motors, UAW Push Patriotic Buying (Visit this link)
Barbara Wieland from the Lansing State Journal: Domestic automakers are hoping more people prefer their home country when it comes time to buy a vehicle. Doing so, some believe, could save thousands of jobs. Just ask Brian Fredline, president of United Auto Workers union Local 602. Local 602 represents workers at GM's Lansing Delta Township plant. GM said Monday that 1,200 of those workers will be laid off when the Detroit carmaker eliminates a second shift at the factory on March 30 because of slow sales of the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook. All workers will return Monday after being idled since December 23, but rotating layoffs will be in place until the second shift is cut. State Representative Rick Jones, R-Grand Ledge, said his Saturn Outlook, made at the Lansing Delta Township plant, is problem-free after 62,000 miles. He's taken out ads in local newspapers to encourage others to buy American-made cars as well. "When we purchase cars, we should go out of our way to support American auto workers," he said.
