Beating a Lamborghini Countach
SaturnFans.com • February 17, 2004

I was stopped at a red light one night, impatiently waiting for it to turn green when to my surprise a late 90's Lamborghini Countach pulled up. After I pulled my jaw up off the floor and wiped up the puddle of drool (it's a really nice car... wouldn't you drool a little?), I got this crazy notion. I'm gonna race him! I figured even if I don't compete with him at all, I'll still get one heck of a show. So, I revved it up good and hard (5-speed). The dude looks over at me and nods... it's on! Hot dang. He revs up the Lamborghini, and wow, it sounded a lot meaner than the Ion!

So we're both sitting there waiting for the green light, and boom it hits. We both punch it, putting on a really nice smoke show. I catch rubber just a little bit before him and I'm gone. By the time we had gone 1 1/2 blocks (maybe 100 yards) I was at 85kmph (50mph for my American friends). I shifted into second gear, and started to slow down. I look over to my right, and there's the Countach – a half a length behind me. I beat him! He smiled, waved, gave me a thumbs-up, and drove away.

Needless to say I told the boys at the dealership the very next day. They told me that they'd never heard of such a thing, but they were definitely going to let the people in charge of Saturn know about it. I earned the Ion some serious bragging rights that night, and it won't be a night I soon forget.
