Layoffs Expected at Relay Plant September 5, 2005 The Associated Press reports that General Motors plans to reduce production of the Saturn Relay, Buick Terraza, Chevrolet Uplander, and Pontiac Montana SV6. Beginning September 6th, the Doraville Assembly Plant's output will go down from "60 to 54 vehicles per hour," said plant spokesman Michael Merrick. "This was directed by Detroit. Sales numbers dictate production; a planning committee meets each month and they decide the production for all GM assembly plants." SaturnFans.com has learned that many at the plant expect an "unspecified" number of layoffs due to the slowdown. Doraville will still run two shifts, and "will continue production of these models," Merrick said. Click here for photos of GM's Doraville Assembly Plant.
