Rumors of a Sky Red Line Fuel Speculation SaturnFans.com July 21, 2005 Rumors of a Red Line version of the upcoming Saturn Sky roadster continue to spread on word of development of a souped-up version of the Pontiac Solstice. The Sky is expected to be available next spring; the Pontiac Solstice will hit market next month. Both cars will be built in Saturn's former Wilmington Assemby Plant in Delaware. AutoWeek recently reported "General Motors [has] tested both supercharged and turbocharged versions of the 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder" engine. However, sources tell the magazine that the "General has settled on an intercooled turbo to push the base Solstice engine to 250 hp." Separately fueling further speculation, SaturnFans.com has learned that the Sky Red Line may be exported to England and sold there as the replacement for the current Vauxhall VX220 Turbo. AutoExpress reports that the roadster will be powered by a "250 bhp 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit. It will arrive in the UK in late 2006, clothed in the body of the Solstice's sister model, the Saturn Sky." The British publication says that the Sky [Redline] will have "Porsche Boxster-like performance, so expect 0-60mph in five seconds and a top speed of 150mph."
