Plans for SKY Roadster Killed SaturnFans.com April 26, 2003 In a rather shocking move, General Motors has reportedly scrapped plans to build the Saturn SKY roadster concept vehicle. The SKY was to be a 'halo' car for Saturn, slated to arrive in the 2008 model year. The topless compact was originally planned to be built along side the Pontiac Solstice and Buick Bengal at the Lansing Craft Centre in Michigan. The SKY, Bengal, and Solstice convertibles were based on GM's so-called 'Tubular' platform - a rear-wheel-drive platform derived from the Delta architecture. Not coincidentally, plans for the Bengal have also been shelved. The changes will allow GM to focus its efforts on building the Solstice. One insider says production plans for the Pontiac have been accelerated; it is now scheduled to arrive late in 2005. Click here for photos of the Saturn SKY concept.
