Astra 'Fast and Fun' Says Magazine
SaturnFans.com • September 24, 2007

Automotive News calls the upcoming 2008 Saturn Astra "fast and fun" in the latest issue, which hit newstands today. The news publication profiled the European engineered and built 3- and 5-door hatchback in the article. Here are some excerpts:

  • "German engineering might not be the first thing you think of when you hear the name Saturn," said Automotive News. "But it might be once Saturn marketers finish promoting the new Astra compact car. The new 2008 Saturn Astra brings European design with tuning built for speed."

  • According to Saturn general manager Jill Lajdziak, who was in Germany at the Frankfurt Motor Show earlier this month, Saturn "will talk about the European roots of this vehicle and the fact that it's been designed and specifically tuned for roads like the autobahn because for many people, that just connotes fun to drive. We're quite proud of it."

  • Competition: Volkswagen Rabbit, Mazda3 and Honda Civic

  • Because only three- and five-door hatchback models will be offered, Saturn doesn't expect the Astra to outsell the Ion sedan and quad coupe that its replacing.

  • The Astra has been designed to keep its occupants safe with "six standard airbags, including roof-rail, head curtain airbags and thorax/pelvic airbags for front-seat passengers." Active head restraints, a pedal release system, and electronic stability and traction control will be offered.

  • The magazine says, "the 2008 Astra is a perfect fit and perfect price for the twentysomethings who want fast and fun. It can go urban if Saturn plays up the European influence on the car."
