2003 VUE 3.0L
Default 03 Vue..3.0 .. 150k miles..Noise, smoke around..

The serpentine belt. Have a small oil leak onto the exhaust manifold. Was

Wondering if that could have gotten on the belt which is slipping. Have an

appointment with a mechanic this week. He is pretty good, did some work

on the brakes. I can't tell if all the pulleys are turning or not..Maybe a

seized one making the smoke..? Any guesses? tia...

3.0 is known for leaky valve cover gaskets dripping oil on exh manifold. Any tensioner on SERP belt can fail and start to growl. Ask your mechanic if he has ever lifted 3.0 intake plenum. Bet he has not.

I'll ask him that...I've had it off...replc gaskets at around 90k..Replc belt around

that same time..Kinda wondered if that is a contributor, bolts loosened

up...Looked at that area a little closer today...see a bunch of rubber filings in

the area. The belt looks like it is coming apart...Bet your right about the

tensioner..thx for the reply...

Folks ask questions on the net and never bother to mention they have worked on vehicle prior.
1. Removing 3.0 plenum to fix VC gaskets? Extremely rare in life, unless you own 3.0, which is also rare.
You know VC gaskets leak, and have done them, and ask if oil contamination on SERP belt is possible?
Sure, it is possible.
You replaced gaskets but prefer mechanic looks at pulleys? Well, maybe you don’t feel like it.
