2003 VUE 2.2L
Information 2003 Vue Bearing Replacements... PLURAL!!!

I have replaced both front end wheel bearings so many times I've lost count. The rear hubs have only needed to be replaced one or two times in the last 10-ish years (since I've had the car.) Has anyone else had this issue and / or has anyone found an underlying cause as to why they keep breaking?

I LOVE my Vue but this is getting ridiculous!

Welcome to the forum

Who's brand bearing are you using? How many times have you replaced? What was the interval?

I've replaced mine about a year ago, about 150k miles.

Are you using the cheapest made in China bearings or OEM GM?

Sorry, you're not alone...

Poor design, & apparent weakness in the kold & Salt Belts. This is the vehicles achilles heel (or at least one of them).

My vehicle is on it's 12th or 13th bearing service (not limited to the front either) seems to eat a bearing every 10K.

Of course our roads are deteriorated from the numerous Freeze Thaw cycles, & road chemicals, but this is a wild & woolly SUV, (at least what all car manufactures wanted us to think), correct?

I've had mine since 183k mi now have 251k. Replaced the left front twice now.

First was probably an off brand, don't remember, but it only lasted 10k or so. Second one was a Raybestos branded one. Just last week I replaced the right rear. Also Raybestos brand. Will see how they do.

I have heard pretty much anything but timken or OEM is garbage as far as wheel bearings go. I didn't have an issue with off brand bearings in the past. But I've blew through 3 starters last year before just getting AC Delco so it seems like off brand quality is definately going down hill.

Thank you! Glad I joined- didnt think I would get this many responses!

Initially I used a refurbished one bc money was tight but then I switched to Duralast at least twice and most recently a Moog. The moog lasted the longest but only a year, maybe? After I had the moog replaced under warranty it went again within 2 weeks. In total I think I've changed the passenger front 3 times and driver front 4 times.

...Like I said , personally I've used Timken. I've replaced mine twice in the front , once gm warranty , then to Timken since then, the rears are once to Timken. I would use whatever has the best warranty , autozone maybe , but Timken has been the best for my RL at 94 thousand miles now, Once you replace them once , clean and antiseize the heck out of the hub and they will be like changing tires, hope that helps, DC

I don't know if you are doing the work yourself or having a shop do it. I've found that the amount of torque applied to the axle nut can be a factor in premature wear of the wheel bearings. I did mine after a failure after approximately 14 months. I torqued the axle nut to ~151 lb/ft which doesn't seem right if you're used to "gunning them down". I replaced my bearings about 10K miles ago on my city driven Vue and haven't heard any front end noises return.

I had mechanics replc the 2 front bearings...didn't want to mess with that aluminum knuckle...Did the left rear hub assy myself..hardest part of that was getting the brake drum off the hub...
No rhyme or reason why they go out..supposed to be sealed..

Stay away from skf they fail only a bit longer than the cheaper ones, the gmb bearings seem to do the best in my redline
