1995 SC2
Default Instrument Cluster Swap

I've done some looking but haven't been able to find the answer. Does anyone know if a 1996 instrument cluster will work in a 1995? I accidentally shorted out the speedo on my '95 cluster (doesn't register speed anymore but VSS is verified working) and have a '96 one readily available. Just wanted to see if anybody knew before I hacked my two clusters together since the 1995 one has a whole bunch of mods on it that I don't want to do again. Thanks.

It might but do not know for sure. If you have drawings check connector compatibility. If you don't I can check in the AM.

According to the parts swap interchanges it says that they would swap, but the '95 model certainly has been found to have some special parts. I don't have a drawing for the '96. I have one for the '95 and a '98 (way too new). The 95 / 96 clusters have a ribbon connector just for the speedometer (which I accidentally tore on mine when adding LEDs) on the back of the cluster where a '97 that I took apart did not have this connection. I am willing to bet the 96 will work but I'd rather not fry the whole cluster if I can avoid it. Thanks for the help.

'95-'96 pinout & connector identical. '97-'99 the connector is still the same, but the pinout is different.

95SC2 and all 96 should swap as the 95 SC2 has the gen-2 interior and cluster. The 96 is the oddball in the gen 2 as the 97-99 all do swap fine. So the guess last night was the 95SC2 and 96 were identical parts.
