Default When airbags deploy clockspring needs be changed?

A friend of mine crashed his 2001 Saturn sl2 ..both airbags deployed.

That yellow connector that connects airbag on back burned and got fused with airbag....we had to break it apart...and we found a donor yellow connector from junkyard along with airbag.

Replace yellow connector with a good one with butt connector.
replaced both airbags and checked fuse which is ok.

what else need be changed?

are there any sensors on the front side like under bumper or around?

I think that control module under center console but clockspring need be changed for sure?

clockspring looks ok....still change it?

I would not mind changing it but we did not change clockspring and put the air bag back in ...so now its diffcult to remove airbag again to put the clockspring ...it always goes bad when airbags deploy? is there any way we can check if its ok or not?

after replacing airbags airbag light still is on I believe becuase we have not changed center control module?

do we need to reprogram using tech 2 or something?

A tech II can read airbag codes IIRC and tell you which part needs replaced.

The SDM and clock spring are both designed to be single use items as far as air bags are concerned. It's likely that the spring is bad due to the sudden massive current that is required to deploy airbags

Can we try this?

We will replace module and see if airbag light goes off than clock spring is ok?

Replace it all. Do you really want to compromise a safety system because of laziness/wanting to save a few bucks?

I wouldn't.

As I understand it, all interior components of the Airbag system are matched. AirBags, SDM, and the clockspring. If they are not all replaced, the Airbag light will set, and the airbags will not work.

Clockspring is more or less generic. Go to Nalley and find the part numbers and that will tell you what years swap. Generally the bags and SDM have to match to the model year.

Even though airbag (2002)and clockspring(2001) are from different year cars ...airbag light is not on ...as long as airbag light is not on ...is it ok?

Yes, the Nalley listing tells you all years that use a specific part. If the bag light is off then they are happy.
