Default 2002 SL2 Catalytic Converter

Need advice on replacing this. They have 2 models. The cat1116 which is the direct fit which is 300$ or the 2539 90$ which is universal but requires a custom fit. Did anyone have any experiences with this????

Have you looked at rockauto.com's site for replacement O2 sensors? No $300 ones to line someone elses wallet. You can choose OEM or bare ones to cut and splice the original connectors on. Your choice. Its been recommended to stay OEM though.

no i understand where you are coming from with the o2 sensors but it really is the converter. It got too hot and split open and is leaking bad (in the car also) we cannot weld it shut.

Did it again, confusing one part for another. Summitracing for catcons? Walker? Catco? Some are direct fit while others require welding.

The $300 one is the downpipe, flexpipe and cat welded together as one unit with the flange. The other $90 one is literally just the cat. The old one will need to be cut off from the downpipe/flexpipe assembly and welded on.

In NY you cannot have a cat replaced unless they do it on the car in one shot...so you cant remove the cat yourself, bring it to someone to weld the new one in while your car sits on jack stands. You'll also need a flange welded to it to match your cat-back.

It may be worth it to get the whole thing. I'm sure your flexpipe is one its way out also.
