Default Can you "clean up" alloy wheels?

Just wondering if anyone knows how one would go about cleaning up the 12-hole teardrop alloy wheels that came on my SC2. I just took them out of the basement this afternoon and swapped out my winter tires & steel rims.
I noticed that the mag wheels really look bad! There seems to be some kind of clear coat that is peeling off of all 4 wheels as well as dark gray stains. My neighbor told me that the stains are from prolonged contact with road salt (previous owner didn't have 2 sets of wheels like I do) because they were run on the car in the winter.
The might sound a little extreme, but can these wheels be sand blasted to clean them up, or does someone have a better solution?

Let me know!

Mike

they're not mag wheels. they are aluminum alloy with clear coat. you could get some eagle one wheel cleaner and see if that gets them clean. or if you're really adventurous you can use a chemical to strip the clear coat, then clean the wheels and spray on some new clear coat.

If you have a sandblaster you can get a box of glass bead at Harbor Freight for cheap. You can shoot the ugly areas at about 100 PSI and it will clean everything up perfectly, any corrosion and loose paint. Only bad thing is it will take the luster out of the aluminum where there is no paint. The rest of the clear coat remains unharmed though, that stuff is ridiculously tough!

Idk if you have a bunch of corrosion like me or if it is just in the clear coat, you should upload a closeup photo of a small area of it.
