Might do something if you put 20 of them inline and a sharkfin antenna on the back.

Does the 'perfect' Ion have an air conditioned glove box?

Your closest bet is to supercharging the car is if you can get Jackson Racing to make a supercharger that replaces our intake manifold with a supercharging intake manifold system like the ones they make for hondas and cheverolet cobalt.

If you want to wing a custom made turbo kit then I would look at:
http://www.phoenixturbo.com/

But something to think about, that Jackson Racing Roterex kit, and the Paxton SL Supercharger systems, are stand-alone without oil lines to the oil pan, and can be mounted anywhere as long as you can run a pulley system to the main belt of the engine. One spot in particular, is under the battery if you haven't done a battery relocation yet. Some kits utilize a rising rate fuel system, so there's not too much tuning involved, but it can be upgraded for more tuning.

You can tell that thing is a joke by looking at the dyno. It'd be easier to turbo the astra. There is one out there that has already done it

LOL you can tell by looking at it that it's a 12volt HVAC blower motor. The only thing anyone is going to get out of that is angry because money was spent on it.

Ummm, but the battery on the Astra is located above the transaxle.

Personally, I prefer the turbo route, since it tends to give you more freedom regarding where you can mount the compressor. With a supercharger, you have to mount it inline with the rest of the belt-driven pullies, and that could get very cramped with many of today's tightly packed engine compartments. The turbo in my ACVW isn't even mounted inside the engine compartment! OTOH, you only have to modify the inlet side when supercharging, while you have to modify both the inlet and exhaust when turbocharging. And the plumbing gets even more confusing if you bring intercooling into the equation.

Or, you could go with that third form of forced induction...

As for costing $2,000 or more, it will definately be more. I saw a Roots charger "upgrade" for the Cobalt SS/Ion Redline selling for $2,500, and that's just for the compressor itself.

There's room under the battery for a supercharger, or a larger turbocharger. The transmission has 3-4 bolt holes that are not used on the face of it, that can be used for a mount for the supercharger, if one were to go that route.

Also, you can have a header made that will mount the turbo to the side, if you do not have enough room for a turbo between the engine and the radiator.

You are definitely going to get more output from a turbocharger than a supercharger on a 4 cyl engine. While most people would like to see 240 hp, I'd like to see a 400+- hp astra in the US.

But the pullies are at the other end of the engine. I suppose you could extend the drive shaft of the supercharger to reach, but you'd be adding extra complexity due to the routing of the drive shaft, and you'd need to locate additional bearing points along the block.

The Harrop TVS? I think it'd be overkill on the Astras engine. If someone could get it to work it'd be nice

Here is the kit that I was talking about it was originally designed for the Scion Tc:

comparison:

The article:
http://www.autospectator.com/cars/sc...c-sports-coupe

Keep in mind that their engine's intake is on the driver's side, whereas ours is on the passenger side. If you rotate the compressor's housing to where it sends air towards the front, like to an intercooler, and then run the plumbing up the passenger side and into the throttle body, it would work. We may have to swap the battery to a smaller on like Braille, or relocate the battery to the back hatch area,..... now if we can find a supercahrger to experiment with,.
