Default Sharkfin Antenna Installed!

Hey all, a few weeks ago I ordered my sharkfin antenna from VisualGarage; after all these ice storms and snow finally settled down I've installed the thing, took about 5 minutes, most of which was aligning it so it isn't crooked. Obligatory pics of antenna on and off of car:

Needless to say, I'm quite pleased with the results, and the reception is as good as the stock antenna too (so far as I can tell in OKC anyway).

Wow, that looks really good.

Question: does OnStar work thru the antenna, or somewhere else, and will it work with this antenna?

Yes, have you tried your handsfree calling and does it work with this antenna? Please let us know.

I don't use OnStar, so it really isn't an issue for me. Maybe someone else here has more info on OnStar, but I think the system has it's own dedicated antennas.

That antenna is strictly for the radio. If I remember right OnStar is located in the trunk area.

That roof antennae is for both radio and OnStar on the Astra.

Did it come color matched?

If so, I might have to get one of those.

Yep, you can't even order the things without them colored.
When you order one the site will ask for the make, model, and color.

Looks great! How is the AM/FM reception? I just looked for one for my car and couldn't find the 'Silver Sand' color. As it turns out it's listed as 'Pannacotta Metallic' there. Thanks to PortCityShawn for listing the Astra paint codes here ===> http://www.saturnfans.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=126788

As I've mentioned earlier, I don't use OnStar, so I don't know what possible consequences there are to swapping out the antenna. As far as reception goes, it's good; not as good as the stock (which should be expected), but damn close. Paint is a perfect match, they use the exact same color codes GM uses.

I'll try to get some more shots of it tomorrow around lunch time, assuming that my camera's battery doesn't die on me again, like it did in the initial shots .

I realize you don't use Onstar.. But is there anyway you could test it? Just verify if it works?

I was out in Utah this weekend and saw a few Caddy CTS's with colored Shark Fins and I was thinking this would make a neat Mod. Saw one on the Red Metallic paint and it looks so nice! Of course I think the roof on the CTS is longer than the Astra, so it looks less pronounced on that Car.

Gosh, Would love to see a black one on an Astra!

Those look similar to the antenna on my wife's Vue with OnStar -- but then my satellite dish looks a lot like a wok but I'm pretty sure their uses aren't interchangeable. So I'm no help either, other than to add that it is feasible for something that looks like that to have OnStar capability. I'm not an electronics guy and I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night but a radio antenna only has to receive, OnStar requires sending signals as well.

I sent an email to Visual Garage. Guess that'd be the best place to ask.

I second that, please do push the blue button and see that happens. I wont drive w/o OnStar.

btw - what kind of terrain do you drive around? flat horizons, cityscape? country? tall trees?
