Started exchanging the power steering fluid on both with the turkey baster method to get clean fluid back into the power steering system, also started 2 applications of Auto-RX on their engines.

Fixed the rear window wiper on my SW2. A little soldering work at the steering wheel switch. Common problem easily fixed. Thanks again to this forum for giving me the heads up before I got to messing with the motor!

Son hit a deer with the 2001, shop replaced axle and control arm bushing on passenger side. I'm in the process of replacing the passenger side headlight, fender and the bumper cover. And a new tire.

New water pump. Second Saturn S series that needed one at about 125k. It was easier on the 2000 though. Seems the clearance was improved for removing the wheel. Flushed the manual transmission a second time while I was at it. previous owner had it serviced with engine oil instead of DM3.

Cleaned the throttle body over the weekend to clear up a sticky accelerator pedal problem. It did that, plus delivered a phenomenal improvement in low-RPM performance.

I actually was shocked. I tore gravel up from the driveway the first time I drove the car after that. I never experienced such dramatic improvement just from removing some carbon from a throttle body. I guess it really throws off the physics.

Well based on the above posts I went ahead and cleaned up the throttle body as well as I could without removing it. Wow what a mess, oily gummy buildup. Looking down the hole into the intake is not advised, little pool of oil down there.. lotsa carbon. Depresssing. I don't even want to think about the valves.. Gonna have to remove the TB and maybe the whole intake Manifold and clean her up. Perhaps I'll pour a bucket of Marvel Mystery Oil down there.

Anycase just the minor cleaning I could reach seems to have helped. Does have slightly more pull at low RPMs.

Also bypassed the IAT with 122ohms of resistance. Seems to run fine. Leaning it out a bit up here at 5k feet should be a good thing. But haven't done a cold start yet. I'll see in the AM. Hope I get a nice improvement in MPG.

Removed master cylinder for a thorough flushing of the brake fluid, and turned the front rotors since I had the struts off (my work has a brake lathe I get to use whenever).

Went to the junkyard. Bought:
  • an MP3 transmission
  • a door hinge
  • and a shifter control tower

All for $160 bucks. Then went and did safety, emissions, and re-registration for $125.

Ouch.

Got my car smoged today and passed with flying colors. A little higher on the Nox this time, but well in the limits. All I did this time is replaced plugs and cleaned and re oil the K&N air filter.
