1995 SL2
Default Need some advice about my 1995 sl2

Very recently I had a dealership (which was formerly a saturn dealership) change my valve cover gasket. I had oil in my spark plug wells, so I was aware that it needed to be changed. Well 3 days later I noticed pools of oil where I parked, so I checked under the hood and what do I find? It appears that the valve cover gasket is now leaking. I contacted the dealership and told them of the problem and they said to bring it back in. Obviously i'm a little annoyed about this as 1)they should've done the work right the first time, and 2) the dealership is about 20 miles from where I live....so there's a travel annoyance as well. I also noticed that i've been getting really bad gas mileage and the vehicle would seem to heat up very quickly if I was in slow moving/city traffic. The dealership also changed something called the temp sensor and connector. I'm wondering if this is the ECTS that they changed, and also wondering if this could contribute to my poor gas mileage. Any advice would be helpful.

Usually fixing the ECTS and connector (while SOLDERING+HEAT SHRINK WRAPPING the splices) helps take care of bad gas mileage issues. Did he use the brass one? Also, was it the one wire sensor or the two wire sensor? This matters since the one-wire sensor controls the gauge and hardly goes out. The two-wire sensor is the ECTS.

Besides, the ECTS+connector is ~$15, so why have a shop do it?

Also, you might want to look into a coolant flush and a new thermostat.. It'll help with the gas mileage and help get any crap out of your cooling system.

they also did a coolant flush, so hopefully that helps. I only had the shop do it since I was there doing the valve cover gasket anyways. I'm not sure which part was used, or even if the part they replaced was the ECTS. The part numbers are 1) 12117087- for the connector, and 2) 21025106 for the actual sensor

21025106 is the part number for the ECTS. Hopefully they connected it correctly. With enough effort you can switch the two sensor connectors. Your SES light is not on, is it?

Is the part number that I mentioned above the brass tipped ECTS?
