Dizzy 1994 Sohc In A 2001????????

Well thanks everyone for all your help on my 2002 Auto trans problem.I went to the wrecking yard ,scored a valve body for 50 bucks ,installed it,changed the fluid and filter .Test drove it and it didn't have reverse slam anymore but it shifted rather harshly.15 minutes of driving and it was like new.I guess the computer had to relearn. It's all good now...........Thanks. Im new at this and not to very blog savvy so i don,t know how to get back to the initial threads on this problem and increase all your reputations... I got a new problem.I have heard that any block will work in any saturn as long as the right crank trigger is used. How about a 1994 SOHC bottom end in a 2002 SOHC car. They look different. Where would one screw in the knock sensor on the 1994 block.I think it is a different casting without an extra hole.

AFAIK the '94 will work fine. The '94 does have a knock sensor and I thought it was in the same place. So, I'm not sure what you are seeing. Low Saturn's the man for this kind of thing though.

Thanks BarnOwl for gettin back. I wish i was smart enough to use this forum efficiently ;then i would sent pics of the back of the blocks. It seems that the 2002 block has an extra port tapped in.Maybe I am not looking at the right sensor. The port i am referring to on the 01 block is 3 devices from the passenger side of the block. The device is nailed down with a 13 mm bolt 1 1/2 " long.It is a 2 pin black device with a dark blue and light blue wire. The connector for this device looks like a fuel inj connector ;square plastic with wire spring clip. The 94 block does not have this port.I have the 94 block in front of me also.Is this the knock detector ? Will the 94 SOHC block with the 2001 head bolted to it work in the 2001 car? Is the crank timing the same for both? These Saturns are a puzzle and i guess that makes them interesting.

The crank reluctor has been the same since the '93 model. So, timing's not an issue. I really don't know what you're looking at. It's not the knock sensor unless it changed a lot on the 3rd gen. I have a lot more experience working on 2nd gens than 3rd gens. The only things I know that have connectors like fuel injectors are the fuel injectors and the windshield washer pump.

Dizzy Re: 1994 Sohc In A 2001????????

I purchase a Chilton manual and it shows what a knock sensor looks like on a 1997 block. My 2001 car does not have this sensor screwed in although the hole is tapped.Immediately towards the driver side there is an extra casting boss tapped and a black plastic sensor bolted to it with a 13mm bolt with a black 2 wire metal spring connector with light blue and dark blue wires. It sure looks like a knock detector of a different style like the one used on my Saab 900 turbo car. The 13 mm bolt is too skinny to fit the knock sensor port on the 94 engine or i would just bolt it on. The 94 k sensor only has 1 wire .I think Saturn changed to a different type of k sensor on Gen3 99 up blocks.I know the block casting is different because it has that extra casting boss where this device screws in......Still confused....Please help.
