Default 2007 Saturn Ion, gas issue after oil change

I have a 2007 Saturn Ion 4 door sedan. We took it in for an oil change. After they pulled the car out, when we started it, the car has a throttle issue. It starts but if you press the gas it just chokes up. It doesn't rev. It is not throwing off a check engine light. The company that changed the oil wants to change the coils, spark plugs, and spark plug cables and do a fuel system cleaning for $900.00. Any ideas what caused this issue? The car was fairly low in gas. Could it be the fuel filter?

It starts up, but pressing the gas peddle doesn't rev it. Help! I feel like I am getting screwed!

When my 2007 Saturn got to a little under 1/4 gas on the gauge, it started having trouble reaching high enough rpms. It would shift a lot on the interstate and have trouble keeping it at 60. It was also having this issue at lower speeds when I was exiting the highway. When I filled the tank, the problem went away completely. (I still want to change the fuel filter soon since I recently bought it and doubt it has ever been changed). I also plan on never letting the level get below 1/4 again (unless I feel like checking to see if the filter helped with that symptom).

As far as the oil change, I'd recommend checking their work if you're mechanically inclined at all. (check the level and color/condition of the oil on the dipstick). The symptom you're describing seems like nothing oil would do (unless something severely went wrong like having no oil/severely low).

The spark plugs, fuel cleaning, etc. was probably an upsell, but you definitely do want to keep on top of your maintenance items. Check the stickied thread in the Tech subforum for some common maintenance items (and refer to your owner's manual maintenance schedule).

I thought I'd follow up with what transpired. I made a lot of calls today because I was certain that the oil change had to be the cause of the issue. Everyone that I called said the only way it could have happened perhaps is if they checked the air filter when the car was running during the oil change and maybe gunked up the mass air flow sensor. I pressed them to check it and finally they did and sure enough it was covered in crap and they cleaned it off and the car is fine now.

But that brings up a new question. They were telling me that the car was throwing off a code when they checked it but the check engine light never came on and they were thinking that someone might have disabled it or it was defective. Does anyone know how to test the check engine light to see if it is disabled or the bulb is out? Is there a way to force the check engine light to come on?

plugs, etc.( minus "fuel system cleaning"-> you can buy a bottle of Techron and a rattlecan of throttle body cleaner), costs for parts isn't much over $100 retail, if buying high end OEM and considerably lower if buying the cheapest ( the shop).

Short Answer: No.

Like 2006_ion2 said, The bulb check is performed every time the key is turned to the RUN position. All applicable warning lights are illuminated during the self-test.

The CEL is an LED (along with all the other warning lights) so it is impossible to disable unless said LED is removed from the PCB. The code they were seeing was probably a pending code. Only confirmed codes trigger a light. Pending codes are the ECM's way of saying "something's fishy here, but I need to run some more tests to confirm/negate this issue". Pending codes are can be retrieved by a scan tool and will be marked as "Pending", but don't trigger a light. When the ECM determines no issue exists, the pending code is deleted.

Ruley,

Thanks for your explanation. That must have been it because I turned the car to the run position and the light came on just fine. They just obviously had no clue what they were doing. I will not be taking my car there anymore!
