Default K&N 57S-4900 Performance Intake Kit

Has anyone tried this?

K&N performance air boxes are designed to dramatically reduce air flow restriction as well as smooth and straighten air flow. This allows your engine to inhale a larger amount of air than the factory air filter assembly. More air means more usable power and acceleration throughout the engine’s RPM range. The 57S-4900 Performance Airbox comes with a custom shaped K&N high-flow air filter and a fully enclosed injection molded air box that connects up to the factory air intake hose. The air box has a removable lid for easy access to the filter when cleaning is required.

Several people have tried these intakes with mixed results.

The Astra seems to be hypersenstitive to oil & dirt on the MAF and throttlebody. Runs terribly when these get a bit dirty. I run a good paper airfilter in the stock box but need to clean the MAF and throttlebody annually. With a K&N you may need to clean more often.

I seem to recall some other drivability or code issues but just do a search.

These engines are not high performance. Best performance upgrade for the price is to run premium fuel (and keep the air filter-MAF-throttlebody clean).

Would you happen to know the price and if it would work for a 5 speed manual '02 L200 2.2?

I must not search very well as I found nothing on this intake. I like that it has a box to muffle the intake noise (would not consider an open CAI). I run a K&N drop in filter and think in the humid southeast they help, but not much.

It's $159.00 with free delivery from K&N (800)-858-3333 but this one is specific to the:

The K&N 57S-4900 Performance Air Intake System fits some Holden Astra, London Taxi TX4, Opel Astra G, Opel Astra H, Opel Zafira, Opel Zafira II, Saturn Astra, Vauxhall Astra Mk4, Vauxhall Astra MK5, Vauxhall Zafira, and Vauxhall Zafira MK2 models.

The K&N website has a search function by make but I can't post the URL until after the 15th post. Sorry man.

This is the other option but it costs nearly twice as much and comes from across the pond. Also, There was no exact match but this one came closest.

CDA - CARBON DYNAMIC AIRBOX - ACCDASP-08
Code: ACCDASP-08

D1 (mm): 70
D2 (mm): 150
L1 (mm): 160

For:
Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 TS 16V
Alfa Romeo GT 2.0 JTS
Honda Civic 1.7 CDTI
Opel Astra H 1.9 16V CDTI
Renault Clio II Series RS 2000 172HP ('01>'03)
Seat Altea 1.9 TDI

The Holden version of the Astra had an optional 2.2 L engine or a 2.0 L turbo, which must have been nice. Any tweak we can make to bump power up a bit (hoping for 5 bhp) can be absorbed without needing to upgrade drivetrain or brakes.

I have that K&N filter installed in my car for almost 6 years now with no major issues. Like most have said you just need to keep on top of cleaning the filter, MAF sensor and throttle body. You will still get a lot of intake noise because there is quite a bit more air coming. I have the intake installed with the vxr intake snorkel and a derestricted airbox.

Many thanks; I've ordered the snorkel and am looking forward to seeing how it changes things. I mentioned this in another thread but there's a small restriction on the top side of the air box as well; it's easy to remove with small flat head and pliers (then sand the plastic lip it sat against flush)
