Default aftermarket stereo install question

I am about to install an aftermarket stereo in my '03 ion, which still has the original antitheft unit. Is it necessary to use the gm2000 adapter? All the info I have found seems that it just affects the door chimes, but have seen first hand what an improper install can do. any good thoughts or experiences in this regard?

I just ordered my unit from crutch field and nothing was mentioned about that so I'm assuming if you get the right wire harness everything will work as it should.

Removing the stock unit is super easy. pop the cover off with a screwdriver or just give it a little tug and it comes off then the unit is held in by two screws. Takes 2 minutes to remove it from the car.

I will be able to update more when I actually do the install if everything works as it should but I don't think that anything will not work.

As long as you don't have OnStar, all you need is a wiring adapter and mounting kit. The Ion still has a separate chime speaker that is integrated into the gauge cluster. The chime is not integrated into the radio unlike most other newer GM vehicles.

like balec said, make sure you have the correct harness. there are several out there for GM vihicles that are the same plug, but different wiring. you will also need a mounting kit if its a single dinn stereo. double dinn stereos should be able to use the side brakets that are on the side of the factory radio.
