Wrench Is there a special California SL engine?

I have a 99 SL2 and have to replace the engine. I got a engine from a junk yard and my mechnic started to put it in and said things were not matching up. Long story short he told me that my saturn had a special engine in it made for California emissions and that I need that engine rather then stock ..... anyone know if this is true and if so how do I get a California SL 2 enigne here in GA?

IMHO, you REALLY don't want the California crap in your car unless you are forced to use it. Even if the car did have a Kali engine and exhaust package, you will want to put the 49 state exhaust stuff in. As said above, the engine should drop in.
