Default What MIGHT be causing my Cylinder 4 Misfire

Ok, I've been talking about the cylinder 4 misfire forever, but I changed my spark plugs a few days ago and I noticed by the spark plug that cylinder 4 apparently seems to be running hotter than the rest of the cylinders. Any idea what could be causing this, or any known problems of such with these engines?!

If you're a car begging for your life, wouldn't you want someone to add fluids?

Wht do you mean hotter? What color was it compared to the rest?

When are you going to realize it is an intake gasket....

Is the DOHC gasket issue the same as with the SOHC where it was damaged on assembly?

I don't doubt you on what it is, I was mostly curious if the bad intake gasket could cause the cylinder to burn hotter. But then again, being that I have a junkyard engine and I don't trust junkyard engines much at all, I have been starting to wonder if the engine is the friggin problem.

It seems like a leak would cause it to run leaner and thus hotter. I'd fix it before you burn a valve.

I wish I had the money to. I really hate doing it, but things haven't gone my way in years. Too bad I can't just hit the lottery enough to at least fix my poor Sexy. I feel like absolute s**t having to drive around with it running like this. Someone please pray I win the lottery, LOL.

How much does a gasket cost? Like $20 or something?

And if you've never done it before, just take it real slow and use up your entire weekend. Have a friend handy to drive you to the parts store to buy anything that you might not know yet that you'll need. And read up a bit before you start the job.

Fixing engines is usually pretty cheap when you do the work yourself. (Unless you have a cracked or warped block or head that is. But you probably don't have one of those.)

It's been my experience that when I don't have any money, I usually have plenty of spare time. They seem to be inversely proportional to one another.

From your posts in the past you sound like you know what you are doing. So you should be able to pull this off. The instructions have been posted and tilting the engine fwd for access is an inportant part of it.

I'd like to do it myself, and probably could, but my parents wouldn't lend me the garage for a weekend, and I have no friends that would let me use theirs for a weekend. If I could meet up with someone that would, and was willing to help me, I would do it. I would ask BarnOwl on this site, as he helped me do some work before, but I don't know if he would be able to, and I really don't like being a burden on anyone. So, I'll just suck it up as my living situation sucks arse right now, and try my best to save up around $600 so Saturn of Durham can do it....at least if Saturn does it, I'll get a warranty, LOL. That's about the price of the gasket job too, because I've asked.

Right now, I'm strictly forbidden from taking on anymore projects until I get all the parts off the '97 SC2 that I want to keep and get it hauled away. Then I have 2 daughters clamoring for another car. That'll be the '97 SW2 in the driveway with the cracked head. It'll be getting the engine out of the SW2. It'll be at least another month before I get all that done. Yeah I know Low Saturn could do it on his lunch break but, I'm not all that experienced at this and I'm old with a not too good back. So, I take it slow.

It's ok if you can't, I didn't expect you to. Hmm, sometimes I wish Low Saturn was right around the corner from me. I know he'd have it done in no time. So as for now, I'll just wait, and see what happens. Maybe I will find another nice individual like you that is willing to help...I really did appreciate it the last time you helped me. If I can't, then I'll just pay Saturn, which in a way is almost what I prefer to do, because of the warranty and everything involved. But right now, the first thing on my list to get done with Sexy is this stuff with the body shop. Then I will worry about this misfire ordeal. I have to take things one thing at a time, it's the best I can do for now. I'm sure Sexy understands that.

Does the body damage make it impossible to drive the vehicle? I'd put off cosmetic repairs until the mechanical stuff is in good shape. Just my opinion though...
