Default 07 Ion 2 - engine compatibility 2.2 California / Federal

I have a 2007 Ion 2, 2.2 engine, California NU6 with hole in exhaust manifold, Air valve etc. Looking to get replacement engine. Found one, but it is NOT California. Can I use that other engine, just use my ex manifold and intake manifold? Basically use it as a short block? or is the head and cam sensors, etc different with California vs Federal. I have read and read and read but cannot pinpoint for sure. I am pretty sure, just want to make sure before I buy the new engine. ANy input would be appreciated. Thanks!!
