Default 4 Cyl. Ecotec Oil Pan Gasket.

What is the recommended way to seal the oil pan when reinstalling?
After removing the pan I see little or no sign of sealant.

Use a high quality silicone gasket maker. I like to use gray since the engine is aluminum.

Thank you for the input.
Do you put a small bead on the inside edge of the pan as i have read ?
Or do you apply it down the middle?

I stay to the inside and go around the bolt holes. Let it cure overnight.

Where do you get this idea to cure gasket maker over night? I recently posted Permatex's video link and directions that explicitly say put the two surfaces you want bonded together while wet, not cured. Do you know something the manufacturer does not?

Personally, I would extend the bead around the center and around each bolt hole (only on one side) and then assemble hand tightening each bolt in normal criss/cross fashion. Allow to cure for an hour and then torque to specs.

IMHO Allowing the gasket maker to cure over night will ensure leaks will occur. If the gasket material is not bonded to each clean surface, it will eventually leak. This is one time I will side with the manufacturer's recommendations.
