Rear Strut Housing Bracket Washer

I'm asking what the washer-type brackets on the rear strut housing bottom bolts are for, and are they needed. I can't find how those are supposed to go back on. They're the ones that go on the one end and they're shaped like it hooks over the end of the body somewhere. I took pictures of how they came off on another phone, but lost them when the phone crashed. Video's I've seen of the strut replacement shows them not using these anymore, or on there when they take them off. Thanks if anyone can post any pictures or know how they go back on. Sorry if I confused anyone.

Does this you tube video help at all. it covers removal of rear strut and installation of new. My son has now sold his L300 and the Haynes Manual went with it, so can't look at any reference sources I'm afraid.
