Strange P0300 occurrence

Well on the way to church about 3 miles in the car started running bad again. I was so happy. Stopped it and hooked up the timing light and the 2 middle cylinders were not firing again. So this would indicate it's not the coil packs and likely the ICM. It was the 2 middle cylinders not firing before I switched the coils. We drove the car home and got the van. After church the car had a good hour and a half to cool down (was 32 degrees out) and it started and ran fine. Hooked up the timing light and all cylinders were firing steadily and the engine was running smooth.

I'm going to pick up a new ICM and if it fixes things maybe get some spare coils just in case. They're not expensive. Depends on how long I keep the car. I'm not planning on trying junk yard parts. Something about replacing a 22 year old part with another 22 year old part the bugs me. Maybe 15 years ago when I could get a 6 year old part that would be different. And I know they will not sell me one for $10.

Update:

I tested the existing coil's resistance and they both measured below spec so I ordered the ICM as well as two coil packs. Had some rewards from the credit card so this all cost me less than $70. It delivered today and I installed them immediately. It's running great so far. Drove it around quite a few miles with no problems. And it was warm today in the mid 40's. So knock on wood this is all behind me.

But now my furnace just took a crap. HVAC guy is coming tomorrow.

The furnace is fixed and the car is running great. We've been making it a point to drive it whenever possible. Have driven it over 110 miles now with no issues. Let's call this one solved.
