Default 02 sc1 aftermarket wheels

Just a quick question. Will 16 wheels with 205/55 on the fit my sc1? I've tried 17s with 205/45s and they rubbed too bad to drive it. Any info would be appreciated

1998 SL2
Default Re: 02 sc1 aftermarket wheels

If it helps at all, I'm running 225/50/16 on my 98 SL2 with minor rubbing on the plastic inner liners only when at full lock left or right.

225/50/16 - 24.86" tall, 8.86" wide
205/55/16 - 24.88" tall, 8.07" wide

So between those and mine, the height difference isn't enough to be a concern, but they're about 3/4" narrower. That being said, I think if mine were not so wide, they wouldn't rub at all.

It's odd that you say the 205/45/17 rubbed considering they're not as tall as either the 205/55/16 or 225/50/16. Perhaps it was the offset on the wheels? Do you now the specs of the 17" wheels they were on, or have a photo?

205/45R17's should fit fine if the car isn't broken and the wheel offset isn't stupid.

215/40R17 +45 rub at full lock on 2" lowering springs but would be fine at stock height
215/40R17 +42 on 1.4" lowering springs fit fine

I put 195/75R14's on stock wheels with 1.3" lowering springs, would rub at full lock up front and high speed bumps or hard cornering in the rear.

Default Re: 02 sc1 aftermarket wheels

All tire sizes are not equal - I purchased two different brands of the same size tire and the overall rolling distance (perimeter) between tires was considerable.

So the safe answer is... You won't really know until you install them on your car and drive them.

My buddy has SC2 and he bought 17" Motegi racing wheels from 4wheelonline. His tires are 215/50's. According to him, there's only a slight rub during sharp turns.

your factory size tires is 24.5 in diameter

your current tires you have is 24.9 to 25.7 that is why u have slight rubbing issues when i look for tires for my vehicles that are bigger then factory i try my best to match them to factory size so there is no rubbing issues i put 15" on a car that required 13" wheels i had no issues with rubbing at all its a good rule of thumb to follow but also the rubbing mite go away after the tire wears down after driving careful it dont rub a hole through plastic even though u can repair the plastic splash shield it also could be a factor on what the current wheel space is compared to factory been factory for your car was 50mm offset if you have a smaller offset it will affect tires rubbing which can be fix with spacers
