Default 2005 VUE 2.2 trans question

I apologize for asking another transmission question but I have looked all over this site and many others for the answer to my question but to no avail. So I will ask, What kind of tranny fluid is used for a 2005 VUE with the 2.2 motor? I believe it is the 4 speed not a 5 speed. Where is it drained, and where do you fill it. Thanks for any help!!

Jason ... I have a silly question ... do you have manual or automatic transmission?

If automatic ... check the service parts sticker on latch-side of rear-door on drivers side for one of following RPO numbers MN5, M16 or M75, and repost.

FYI ... RPO for 5-speed manual is MG3.

UGHH!!! I can't believe I forgot to include that! It's an automatic, FWD. I do have a MN5 number on the sticker. Thanks!

Idea Re: 2005 VUE 2.2 trans question

Jason,
As far as I remember, there is a table somwhere in the manual that tells you about the fluids that are used on your Vue. I would check in the meantime is i can get some information for you or others are welcome to chime in.

Jason ... a heads up ... it appears you have a 4T45-E Hydra-Matic 4-Speed. There's no service data in the 2005 Vue owners manual for this automatic transmission, but according to the 2007 Vue manual you should service with Dexron - VI ATF.

I'm still looking for absolute confirmation and quantities and will post when found.

I'd read Saturn replaced the VTI on 2005 Vue's with 2.2L with another GM AT but I believe yours is first post I've seen with questions.

Edit added ... the 07 Owners Manual says to change ATF at 100,000 miles for normal service and 50,000 miles severe service (towing, mountains, city traffic at temps greater than 90F).

Do you plan to change your own fluid?

Do you want the procedures to do so?

I've attached a few extracts from service manual ... note the reference to Dexron III. This fluid is not available in my area so I used Dex VI (Chevy pickup).

I've yet to find change interval for the trans filter - makes sense to do so if its easy to access.

In a rush right now - will post more later - hopefully others will have first hand knowledge of this AT.

I have one last attachment - a spec sheet which reveals you'll need 6.9 (seven) quarts of ATF.

If you've changed much transmission fluid in your life you'll know you need to drop the pan on most transmissions to get the old fluid out. This little guy is no different, so you'll probably need a new pan gasket, and to do it right, a new filter.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
