2004 VUE 2.2L
Default Convert standard Vue to Redline appearance

I bought a 2004 Vue about 6 months ago, but I wanted a stick and the economy of the 4 cylinder, so I of course had to get a standard looking one. I really like the look of the Redlines and was wondering how hard it would be to convert over. It looks like the main difference is front/rear bumper, side skirts, lowering, and wheels. I see the bumpers on ebay, and could get aftermarket rims if needed, not sure about the side skirts. But are the bumpers and skirts direct bolt on from a standard Vue, or would I also need to get special brackets or anything else to put on RL cladding? Just wondering and pondering in my mind...

Direct bolt on for the body parts.

Other differences are dark tinted rear door windows and black C pillar

Frankly for the cost of the parts and labor you could have just bought a RL and saved money factoring in the fuel efficiency benefit of the 4 banger...

Default Re: Convert standard Vue to Redline appearance

Pretty doubtful since I got my 04 with 80k miles for $6000, and I've seen similar year with 100k miles on a RL for close to $10000. I figure cost of parts I'm looking at $1500 or so and my bro will prob paint them for me for cheap (he's a body guy). I don't think I'll be near $3-4000 + added fuel costs of the V6 in doing a conversion. Also, it was more about getting a stick than the engine, and as far as I know there's no way to do that with the V6 either. Nothing special about the RL engine anyways, it's all cosmetic.

Thanks 3RedLines for the info. I have a black Vue, so not worried about the C pillar and it also has partial tint, though probably not as much as a true RL. More worried about the body kit. I've seen RL front and rear bumper covers on ebay, though only fronts right now it looks like. Any ideas where to get the side skirts? I've never seen them up for sale. Maybe I'm just calling them/searching for the wrong thing. Any idea what the proper name is?

It's not like I'm in a big rush, just trying to figure out the price and feasibility.

I never actually thought about those side skirts, I've never seen them on ebay actually. It might be that they're just visually non apparent so they don't pull them? Not too sure. You could probably just paint the normal stuff and it'd look close enough.

You could likely do a manual conversion with the V6, nobody has though. The engine is offered in other forms with a stick though.

I dunno, I've never gotten the whole imitation thing. I'd rather spend a little more and get the real thing. That's just me though.

A bit of searching on Google actually led me back to the Vue Mods forum, and I found a thread (didn't search there, doh!) that someone listed the part numbers. I found the skirts on SaturnParts.net. I'm sure I could also get them from a dealer, but that is probably the most expensive option...

Look up rear Redline bumpers on http://car-part.com/. Call one of the scrapyards that have bumpers listed and they will likely have the skirts.

Deusx...

Why attempt all this..when I have seen some very nice standard
Vues, with side steps, front brush guards, tinted tails, fronts, 15 percent shading on side windows, racks, trailer hitchs with chrome bumpettes,
a whole slew of nice dress up parts that look very tough..and all the choices
of wheel and tire packages out there?

You are going to lower your VUE, changing its center of lateral resistance, but you are going to encounter a few issues, one will be the steering ratio. RLs are set up to steer our wider wheels. you may find yours to be a bit sloppy with bigger wheels / tires. I am not sure if our damping spring rates are different..could be, so you may seem to bottom out. other than that..I am pretty sure your suspension set up should be ok..but I would
really look around at other guys standard Vues..I have seen some really nicely decked out vehicles, some as nice, if not nicer, in appearance than my RL.

I mean check this out..

this is pretty sweet looking...with the sidestep bars, and
the wheels...its just tricked enough to be as cool as my RL for sure.
and without going wild like you are suggesting, I would be proud
to have a Vue that resembled this..it looks great.

I think it comes down to personal opinion. I'm not a fan of that look. I don't like the nerf bars and really don't like the look of the front brush guards on Vues. To me, a Vue is a glorified car, and I'd rather have a sporty-looking one. Especially if I can have it look mostly OE. I'll leave the offroading for real trucks.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize I could look for RL specifically on there. Unfortunately there is only one listing when I search for a front bumper cover and that is from a place in MI (I'm in MN) that has an aftermarket one. Nothing for rear bumper cover either.

I actually thought about this too because I want a white redline like the streetplay vue... I may buy a white vue and get the redline parts to put on and my black rims. I think the white on black would look amazing, is anyone on here good at photoshop? I can send a pic of my redline and can someone make it white for me? Im thinking of having the bumpers and skirts painted white if I were to buy a white one and commit to this.

You could vinyl wrap it white for a few hundred bucks and a few beers in a couple hours.

When I first got mine, I considered wrapping it red. The RL only came in red after the facelift, so it'd be unique.

Look under "bumper assembly" there are some front bumpers available and quite a few rears for the redline.
Also shipping from most of these places isn't too bad

Default Re: Convert standard Vue to Redline appearance

Here is the parts list in case anyone else is interested. I found it in another thread by searching Google.

Front Fascia: 22714026 (WRONG?! for std)
Side Panel: 22731386 (LH)
22731387 (RH)
Side molding: 22719459 (LH)
22719460 (RH)
Rear Fascia: 22719458

I think they are all right (searching them on SaturnParts.net), except the front fascia seems to be the standard front bumper cover, not the RL. Anyone know the correct part number? I can find the cover by searching on SP.net, but not sure how or if I can get the part number from there.

Then if you don't like the look, why own a pig in a bowtie?
sell it, and buy an RL, you are going to be tossing that kind of cash around
anyway. so it makes no sense not to start with an RL, and then do what nitrous, XRL, or myself did, make it your own, and MY RL gets 25 on the highway, I doubt that Iron 4 banger does anywhere near that, so the economy of a stick and that engine is a non issue. I assumed you were trying to make your Vue an upscale looker, without going wild spending money, sorry. if you pour 4 k into that conversion...you will never see that cash again brother..and I doubt you are gonna be married to that converted look for very long. so a true RL is a better choice, hell a Mercedes M is a better choice..but it is what it is..best..

Oy we've been over this already...

First off, the RL is itself a "pig in a bowtie". Your beloved Honda V6 is the same exact one you get in a pedestrian Vue, so don't get high and mighty on me about that. It's nothing special. The RL package is almost purely cosmetic, so I don't see how wanting to put that on my Vue is any different, just because it wasn't available as a factory option. I LIKE having a poor, pitiful 4-banger and especially a manual tranny and that is not available on a RL. So why not take the best of both worlds and combine them. I won't be pouring 4k into it. In fact, looking at actual numbers I could do it for less that 2k easily. There is unfortunately virtually no aftermarket support for the Vue, and I like OE better anyways, so that is why I would want to use real RL parts. In the end it comes down to personal opinion and taste. Why do others keep trying to tell me I'm stupid and shove their opinions down my (and looking at other threads I've found after some googling, others) throats? How is this different from other people spending money customizing their Vues with aftermarket stuff like wheels, nerf bars, brush guards, etc (all of which I think look ugly on a Vue, but hey to each their own)?

Also, why don't you throw the money at me to go out and buy a Mercedes... that'd be nice of you!

deusxanimeme can't you see you've been out voted. Under no circumstance are you allowed to do want you want. Understand?

My dads 4 banger standard Vue definitely gets better gas mileage then my redline. Of course he probably drives it easier than I do as well.

Seems like a lot of work... but if you're up to the challenge, I say go for it.
