Default Radiator Fan Only Works on High Speed

'03 ION 2.2L

Whenever I use A/C or defrost, the radiator fan comes on like it's supposed to, but it always runs at high speed. I've confirmed it's not caused by the two fuses under the hood.

What else could it be?

Does GM sell it or do I have to go the Radio Shack route? Where is it located?

Are you talking about the rad fan or the blower in the car?

Rad fan on the ION's should only be a single speed one.
If it is the blower then as davidsky said the blower motor resistor is the most likely cause.

they must mean the blower motor, not the radiator fan. the resistor pack, or wiring could cause this.

I'm talking about the rad fan. Only single speed...really?? It's clearly running wayyy faster/louder than ever before. My repair manual (Haynes/Chilton) talks about the fan control module using relay(s) to regulate low/high speed with some PCM involvement too. But the manual cops out and basically says to take it to the dealer once you know it's not a fan motor or fuse issue (and I've already ruled those out).

Totally missed the radiator fan part, sorry about that. Mine is real loud as well but I'm too lazy/poor to have a look at it.

Wiring diagram for the cooling fan only shows one relay.
If the rad fan seems noisey check for a damaged fan or blockage in the condensor rad assembly.
