I am starting this thread to see how our cars are holding up. It would be useful if you could state your mileage and indicate any mechanical problems you had along the way and at what mileage they occurred.
Mine is an automatic with 4000km on it. It has had an air-leak in the driver's door and a bearing noise on one of the back wheels since new. |

Almost 25K.
A/C system replaced, and the brakes are squeaky.

15,000 miles, blown engine, seized transmission, wheels fell off.
![]() Just kidding, no problems other than interior rattles, but I blame Detroit, not Opel. Good thread. I've been noticing a lot of problems with the variable cam timing system around here... |

Sirraven, that's pretty amasing. It's almost 100,000km. That's 5 years worth of driving for me. If I can get that out of the Astra without any problems I will be happy. Hopefully by then I should have moved to a different tax bracket. (So I can get a VW)
How did you rack all these miles up? |

Bought the car in March of '08 new.
Zero issues with the car other then the battery dieing. But that was my own fault for not disconnecting the thing when the car was sitting over the winter. Oh and I have 14,500km on it.

About the same miles on mine but I purchased in mid December (but it did have +/- 150 on the clock then). ;>)
It is my daily driver except for bad weather but indoor soccer is getting me an 'extra' 250 miles each weekend. One oil change at 3,000 (to synthetic) and one screw in one of the Michelins (tire pressure sensor alerted me) and no other problems (sound of wood being knocked upon). |

I live a quarter mile away from work,so I walk pretty much everyday. Since I don't commute,it cuts down on ins. premiums as well.

I currently drive 60 miles each way to work. When I lived in NorCal, I drove 50 miles each way, plus a few road trips between AZ and CA (taking the scenic route ![]() BTW... the Pirelli's still look like they have about 15k left in them. I'm pleased how well they've held up. The 1996 and 2002 cars in my sig were also mine. Any car that doesn't make it to 200k is a lemon imo. ![]()

20k miles and not even the slightest nit to pick with the car. I do plenty of spirited driving on twisty roads, and I'm astonished to see that the tires look like they could hit 40k miles before requiring replacement. Modern tire technology is amazing- you get grip, mileage and affordability all at once.

Purchased August 19, new. Have 10700 kms on it right now. Will be adding another 2000 kms this weekend for a snowboarding trip.
No major problems. Dash rattle, was fixed. Squeaky brakes early on, sorted itself out. No problems with them. Squeaky accelerator pedal. Lubed and is better but still a tiny noise there. Stiff passenger seat adjustment mechanism. Lubed, all is fine. Cracked front bumper, under lower grille, possibly from extreme temperature change. No explaination for it. Will be fixed come the spring (and before anyone asks, its out of my own pocket, not warranty work). Turn signals intermittantly working when its extremely cold, and you need to hit them a second time to come on. This car doesnt like the cold ive come to realise. Foam under passenger seat cloth separating leaving permanent lines in the seat. I think thats it. Only other annoying thing is the rear passenger window fogging up the way it does. Its not normal, and Im convinced there is something wrong causing it. Poor seal or leak somewhere maybe. Or maybe the sunroof has to do with it, but why that one window only. Its excessive fogging and only on that one window, when no other windows or other cars are fogged up at all. It really is excessive and not just me being paranoid. Ive never had any car do anything like it before, and have never seen the likes of it, to one window when noone else is fogged. Aside from that, the Astra is doing alright so far after over 10000 Kms. I havent seen improved MPG as my milage went up as others have claimed to see, in fact its gotten worse, but then again it is winter now and the likely cause. Will be interesting to see what it drops back to come the spring/summer again. |
