Default 98 Saturn won't stay running

I have a 98 SL with 133k the fuel gauge was acting erratic for a while, it acts like its running out of fuel.Mechanic said it needed a fuel pump. We had the new fuel pump installed and filter the car ran great for 166 miles then stalled again no codes showing. Any help on what else I could check.it starts but only runs for 15 seconds .

Try blocking the EGR, Cut up a can and put it between the EGR and gasket. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YRq2Xl58Oo This will check for EGR leakage problems.

There are other causes of the EGR opening when it should not. The block checks for that. If the EGR opens at idle the car quits running.

Start figuring out why it is coming open. There are several choices and throwing parts at it is expensive.

Fuel pressure is 45-51psi, key on engine off or running at idle Use a WIX 33731 filter/regulator. RockAuto will be your lowest cost or possibly Amazon, check both. There is nothing else that works.

Your post above says you have 18psi fuel pressure. The filter/regulator is what causes this. It is not just some low buck filter, it is also the pressure regulator. If you used a WIX 33731 filter/regulator unit then the fuel pump is the only other answer to low pressure.

Starting multiple threads with the same issue is not going to get this fixed.

Carter makes the only pump that works. Carter P74838M pump assembly and Rock Auto sells them. http://www.rockauto.com

Do yourself a very big favor and take it back and order the CARTER unit I posted the part number for. Airtex pumps fail rapidly. You can find that carter pump on eBay for 120.00 Just be absolutely you are actually buying the correct Carter pump unit. Some eBay auctions will sell off brand pumps under the Carter number. Search eBay for this auction number 331167535472

Yes, carefully jumper between pins 30 and 87. I believe 87 has a small + symbol next to the pin on the fuse panel. The pump will run regardless of the key position.

I should have taken your advice Oldnuc that airtex fuel pump failed. Why do these pumps keep failing, this is the third in 3 months.
