Default DOHC Valve Spring Compressor

I've searched this forum in and out and I don't think my answer lies within.

Has anyone come across an aftermarket valve spring compressor that works on the DOHC?

I would like to invest in one, I don't want to risk damaging anything like last time..

There's a guy on turbosaturns who has one made up from a largish c-clamp with a certain size socket welded on the end. Unfortunately that site is down or I'd search for a pic.

Invest in one, eh? I couldn't find one in the aftermarket world that I knew would absolutely work, so I didn't take the chance. If you are equipped with some basic wood and metal working equipment, you may be able to make one that works well. It uses the same cantilever type construction that is depicted in the FSM.

IIRC, I made mine from solid oak lumber, steel rod, aluminum tubing, and nylon inserts. If you want me to send you some photos, I'd be willing to. Just PM me and I'll get the pieces together for a photo shoot.

Are you lookng of one that works with the head still installed on the engine or one that works with the head on a bench?

We use one of these. Can be found pretty cheap on ebay.

go to partsamerica.com (schuck's, advance auto parts, kragen, and checker stores) and look up part# T75502. It's an OHC valve spring compressor.
I haven't tried it myself yet, I will, then I'll post whether it's worth it or not.

I successfully used a vice-grip brand bar clamp and a 3/8" drive 5/8" deep socket that I ground off 1/3 of two sides to expose the center. I then used a pair of small forceps to delicately extract/insert the keepers thru the openings in the socket sides.
Using this jury-rig requires an extended level of dexterity but I did all 16 without a single scratch to the lifter bores -or a trip to the little big tool store.
PM me if you want an image of the socket/clamp combo, but the hogged out socket looks very similar to the image seen in Low Saturn's response.

My concern would be bending the valves. The compressor has to sit on the valve face flat and evenly. It says in the FSM that the wrong compressor can damage the valves.
