2007 VUE 3.5L
Default Rear Differential Replacement

Hi,

My rear differential was howling recently, it lasted around 3 minutes or so as I tried to limp it home. During this 3 minutes, I heard a bang. I went out to look and the differential cracked open on the rear drivers side and all of the fluid leaked out.

I have no idea why it was so sudden, I anticipated more warning. I recently changed the rear CV axle on the drivers side a week before, but I have trouble believing this any replacement CV axle could cause this. I thought if there was any problem with it, it would seperate at the inner or outer cv joint and not crack the differential housing! Maybe a coincidence?

Anyway, I have an entire differential assembly replacement ready and a bottle of Royal Purple Synchromax, so good to go, but I had a question about getting the drive shaft back in with regards to balancing. When I took it off in the summer, I marked the front and back, but of course, im replacing the entire back now lol. How do I go about re-installing it so I don't get a wobble? Does it matter that much? Any tips?

Hope this makes sense!

Thank you in advance

Default Re: Rear Differential Replacement

Looks like I'm going to put the drive shaft on and see if it gives a bad vibration.

If it does, I'll rotate it 90 degrees each time and see if that helps
