Could we end this please?

Let's take this even half seriously now. The S-series was a car on a platform designed in the 80s, with an engine designed in that time frame too. That it lasted as long as it did is proof of the quality of those designs, but nevertheless, they have become clearly outdated. They can't "bring them back" as they were, and updating them would mean catching up to a near decade of inactivity on that technology, which would probably involve scrapping it and inventing new technologies from the bottom up to replace them.

Plus, the factory that made them is no longer equipped to do so and it is under GM administration.

The only thing that could be brought back is the name, but given the 8 years since it was last used, and the minimal awareness of it in the general population, even that would be a move that wouldn't make much sense.

If they just used the gen 1 body styling with a bit of updating, it would be tits, and they could even use the original LL0 engine, people will love the 40 mpg's and not costing an arm and a leg.

The s-series was an outdated car in the late 90s, it could never be a competitive car in todays market. Maybe penske will bring over some nissan or samsung pos car and call them SCs and SLs

As with many classic car designs, the manufacturers destroy them with styling updates.

I've already turned the page on the s-series, it's technology and design. I still love it's design, but I can't do without the power and utility of my VUE.

While the idea is there....and who hasn't thought of it before...if the S-Series came back out as a newly designed car.

Granted it would be light years from what the S-Series once was. Look at how many nameplates have been revised over the years by GM, Ford and Chrysler.

While it does sound like an idea that may or may not be endorsed....I would rather see Penske do something more innovative with the Saturn name.

The first gen Saturn SC is still my favorite looking Saturn!

I have no doubt that a car with the attributes of the S Series would sell today. American designed and built, above average reliability, affordable, fuel efficient, sporty, and with unique dent resistant exterior construction. Okay, so maybe most consumers don't care about American built anymore, but I think people would go for a decent looking, sporty economy class car that has more soul than a Corolla or Civic. (The Mazda 3 kind of fits the bill, though I don't care for the new huge smiley face grille!)

I just wonder if they'd have any trouble designing a frame to use the polymer panels while still getting the "Good" rating in the IIHS frontal and side impact crash tests.

It's just a name. Saturn could have just as well called the ION the S-series. Sure, it was a totally different car. But today's Honda Civic is a totally different car than the Civics of years past. They just keep the same name.

The S-Series of 2010 would of needed to be a transition of updates of the original S-Series. It's dead. just let it go.

But hey. Lets bring it back and throw that Bose audio system in it so you cant hear all the rattles.
