Dizzy Ignition issue

New here, already need help ;-}

I have a Level 1 2005 iON. I “discovered” a while ago that I could remove the key while the car was running, never again did that because I know it’s not “normal”.

Now today my son (he gets his own car Wednesday ;-} came home and the key is out but the car is running. Looks like the ignition is in ACC. Tried disconnecting battery, engine keeps running, tried stalling it -couldn’t do it. As a last resort I remove “fuse”/relay number 25 and that turns it off

I read here that this is an fairly common issue however most I read is where the key is stuck while in ACC. Not in my case, key comes out but car keeps running.

Any ideas? Luckily I’m on furlough but still ;-}

Thanks in advance.

Remove the small plug / cover in the bottom of thee steering column, inside the hole push the solenoid to the left and rotate the key back to lock.
Note: a bad switch in the floor shifter is the problem.

Thanks!

I’ve been poking around in there but no luck so far, I feel what I think is a circular “thing” that’s spring loaded, is that it? Fact that the items in there are +100° isn’t helping
