Get the same type of data with the trans in Drive. The turbine slip should become equal to engine rpm (with car not moving). Then give it full throttle (still in D, brake on). Turbine slip should remain equal to engine rpm. Maybe "Gear Commanded" will also show up once trans is in gear.

Before I got a response asking me to press the brake and gas pedal when in drive again, I drove around the neighborhood, and I also found out that resetting the computer makes it slip as soon as it gets close to 25MPH, and that it does better after the first time. I hit the pause button after it did this, and recorded the charts that were not talking about the cruise control (something I still have never used). I started accelerating at my normal slow pace at about the marl that says 1100, and felt it slip at the RPM spike that appears at about the 1200 mark. do these charts contain any clues?

I'm trying to make sense of those graphs. It looks like the TC is not the problem, when the slip occurs turbine speed is nearly identical to engine rpm. Line pressure has me puzzled, it seems to show a normal range of 60-220 psi, but there is also a "826" notation there; what does that mean??? I think those pressures displayed are commanded pressures, not necessarily what it is actually getting. Comparing the displayed pressure to a mechanical gauge might give us some hints. Was there any shifting during the time displayed? I'm kind of guessing the slip "spike" occurred right as it shifted to 4th.

I believe the shifting of gears is shown in the second image, the graph marked "current gear". If that graph is to be believed, it looks like the RPM "spike" started just before it shifted to 3rd, and ended when it shifted to 4th. It seems to have shifted to 4th quickly, but I do not know if that was prompted by the PCM, or by my reflexively lifting my foot from the throttle on hearing the RPM "spike".

Sorry, I missed that "gear" graph, must have been too late in the evening for me!

Yes, it looks pretty clear that the slip start as it goes into 3rd, and the quick shift to 4th was because of throttle lift.

I would really like to see what LP (line pressure) is doing at that 3rd shift. Next, air-check of the clutches/servo.

If you are good electrical/electronic skills, then I could have you check current in the solenoid circuits and even do some temporary wiring to force operation in only one gear at a time. If no joy with all that, then I'm afraid it is time to throw a VB at it.

Did you ever try driving it without the 10-pin cable connected? I'll have to go back and check previous replies. Regardless, now that you can log and graph, it would be great to do that again.

In these charts, I accelerated to about 25 mph from a dead stop with the wiring harness on top of the transmission unplugged. I do not seem to have saved the charts with RPM and vehicle speed, but it accelerates very slowly with that plug off, and will not exceed about 2100RPM. My foot was to the floor.

It will not shift out of 4th after the trans has been unplugged until the computor is reset, not even when it is plugged back in. I reset it, and accelerated to about 25mph, on these charts.

This is what it does when it does not slip. It looks like it learns to skip 3rd gear entirely.

This is what it looks like when the brake and gas pedals are pressed at the same time. It will not go above 2100 RPM, just like doing the same thing with it plugged in.

No need to worry about taking too long, blaming you for being slow would make me a huge hypocrite. I will also be unable to find a suitable pressure gauge until at least some time next week. How exactly would I go about wiring the transmission top plug to force it to shift? I think that could tell us something.

Issuing you own electrical commands for shifting requires a minimum of four SPST switches, but it would be far better to use a 3-pole 6-position rotary switch with break-before-make contacts. Switches should be able to handle 3A. I don't think you would need to control the TCC or LP for testing the shifting, but those could be done, too. The TCC could be a simple SPST switch, but the LP would require a variable resistor; a fairly large one. Not worth the cost/bother for just testing. Do those terms "SPST", "rotary", and "break-before-make" intimidate you?

I went over the graphs for quite a while and came away with more questions than I can even remember right now. I will have to go over them again, making notes of what data in which graph files I need to ask about. A few I do remember, kind of consistent to all graphs are:

1) Any clue what those LP numbers (on LH side of graphs) mean? Again, I see reasonable ranges (60-220 psi) but the numbers in larger type (800-1000 psi) I don't think are possible.

2) Are the numbers (200, 400, 600) along the horizontal axis seconds? It would seem, then, that it is taking 200 seconds for you to accelerate from 0-25 mph. That doesn't seem realistic.

3) The data numbers to the left of each graph have me confused; especially the "large text" numbers that I think should be distinct data points. But what point (time) on the graph are they supposed to be? They do not seem to correlate, like they could not all be from the same time. I need to cite specifics, I know.

4) Can you select specific data fields to display, and how to order them? They seem to vary from graph-to-graph, and sometimes include stuff of no real value (A/C status, for instance). I would like to keep just a few parameters, to be displayed on two screen-shots, to avoid being overwhelmed.

5) I wish the vertical axis had units. Even the "gear" one is a bit ambiguous. I can kind of follow the steps for each gear, but then you get one where you say it skipped 3rd. I can't really be sure.

6) Is this the car that you are uncomfortable taking over 25 mph? I would like to see data from higher speeds, like up to 65 mph. Also, harder acceleration, if you really are taking 3 minutes to go from 0-25 mph.

Enough for tonight...

I had assumed that the big numbers on the side were supposed to be the value that was recorded when I pressed the "pause" button, but actually reading them, some of them are outside of the range listed below.
The numbers on the horizontal axis seem to measure time, but I do not believe it is in seconds, the units are smaller. I will need to time it to find out more.
I am not sure about the numbers on the left. I had assumed the big number was the value at the time the scanner was paused, and the smaller numbers below represent the highest and lowest values on the graph, but if that was the case, than some of the final values would contradict the range.
The graphs in the pictures are screen-shots taken as I scrolled through the paused data (after pulling over, of course), I captured screen-shots whenever I saw a graph that I thought could be relevant. There are many other irrelevant graphs that were not near any that I wanted to capture. I do not know why things like A/C and cruise control are listed under the menu for "transmission".
I will try to mess with settings next time.
This vehicle is still not registered. I need to wait for an opening in my dads schedule before that can happen because the DMV is closed when I am let out of school. I can not leave the neighborhood because the police patrol bigger roads, and may find a car with no license plates just a bit suspicious...

I am asking before I forget... Is there a wiring diagram somewhere for the 10 pin plug in the top of the trans? I prefer to know what wires go to what functions before I try to mess with them. I would like to avoud the following scenario:
"Okay, that one is 4th, what does this one do?"

Sure, that info has been posted on this forum before. However, the "search" function here is so sucky I won't even try to find it. I will scan hard-copies, but would like to send them to you via private email, so as not to have to resize to fit the attachment limits. PM me your email address.
