Default Selling 1999 SL1 Manual 48K miles.. yes, that is it

I bought my Saturn in 1999, it was my first ever new car I bought myself. A few months later, I went overseas, was supposed to be for a year, wound up being 5. It was in storage that period of time. Since I got back to N. America, I drove it from Canada to AZ, used it as my car for errands (stay at home wife) and then drove from Tucson to Minneapolis, where we now live. It has been a great car and it has 48K miles. That's right, 48,000 miles. That's it.

Last year, we traded in my husband's F150 and bought an Escape as our daily vehicle, with the idea of keeping the Saturn as a reliable second vehicle. That has worked out as we saved a great deal on gas from his F150, but he misses having a truck.

I had a garage sale this weekend and someone asked if we wanted to sell the Saturn. We had been thinking of selling it to get my husband a small truck for recreational use.

I checked KBB and a 1999 Saturn with this mileage in excellent condition is $2450. I see some listed here for $2000, but their mileage is in the 200K range. What bonus do I get for low mileage and excellent upkeep in terms of private selling price? Given the mileage, it still has MANY years left.

I would like suggestions for a fair price to sell it. The people wanting to buy are long time Saturn owners and it would be for their son going to college.

Hello,

I also live near Mpls. and oddly enough, I bought Creampuff (see Sig.) with 36,000 miles on it 1 1/2 years ago for $3k.

I would consider buying it, same situation. If they don't buy it though, I'm next in line, please......

If we cross close paths, I would be happy to meet you somewhere to correctly evaluate it for you. just shoot me a PM.

Thanks!

What is "fair" is what someone is willing to pay. The only thing you have to do is give them full disclosure, and to be honest I wouldn't worry about what any pricing guide tells you.

With gas prices being what they are, I wouldn't hesitate to ask 3K + for the car. With miles that low it's almost a shame to have to sell it, but someone has a lot of fuel costs savings when they buy.

I'm not sure why the KBB is so low, maybe because Saturn went out of business?

I just sold my 1985 Toyota truck for $2500. The "blue book" on that was about $2900!!

I think the value on these little Saturns will actually go up. They get great mileage and are really easy to do self-maintenance on them. People are really going for that these days.

I'd stick to at least $3200 and go no lower than $2900 if necessary.

I agree, 3000 to 3200 would be about right.

I have been shopping around for an ultra low mileage SL2, and the few that I have found have been in the 5-6k range.

If I wasn't looking specifically for a loaded SL2 Auto, I would be making an offer

You could get $3000 for it, if you're willing to wait. Just depends on how desperate you are to sell and how desperate the buyer is to buy.

Consider selling on Ebay. A bidding war might get you more than you imagine. FWIW ... Dealers have no hesitation asking $5k for low mileage Saturns.

It is bittersweet. I convinced my husband to trade in his F150 to buy the Escape. The Saturn was in the garage all winter, wanted to protect it from the elements, but we didn't need to drive all winter. The one vehicle did us just fine except for when we needed to haul something or husband wanted to go hunting. A small truck works better for him.

I think I will shed a tear when it is gone to a new home, preferably a Saturn Lover's home. The guy and his mom are coming to test drive tomorrow or Thursday.

Never thought of that! I was just going to do Craigslist.

I forgot to mention, it is from Canada, so the odometer and speedometer are in KMs, with the smaller MPH on the speedometer. No difference in the vehicles, one just has to get used to KMs being the main speed level.

If you bought their Creampuff would your Creampuff be jealous?

I just spent about $2,500 after replacing my engine, struts, etc. It seems like your Saturn should be worth more than $3000 to the right person. Especially someone wanting to save gas when commuting to work.

So your Saturn only has a hair under 30,000 miles on it then after conversion from kilometers! I'm assuming you also live in Canada, where in Canada are you located?

I would pay your price ($3,000), if:
1) You lived closer
2) I didn't already own two cars.

Good luck.
