Default 2002 L200 2.2L thermostat replacement

I am new to this site and I did some searching but couldn't find any info on my exact issue. My 2002 L200's fan has been running the entire time the car is running. Along with the fan, there is a P0128 code that comes up. I did find someone who posted about this on a 2003 L200, however, I don't know if the thermostat is in the same position on my 2002 as on a 2003. I looked under the hood and can't seem to find the thermostat housing where the directions for the 2003 show it. Is there a walk through somewhere on this site for a 2002 or am I just blind and it is in the same spot as the 2003?

I found the thermostat to be very easy to change on this engine. You don't even need to remove some of the stuff that the manual says to. I don't think it took more than an hour, including draining a bit of coolant and re-filling. One hint - use a 1/4" drive with the socket on a long extension from above. If you try to go in from the side it doesn't work well. I left the t'stat housing connected to the hose. There is enough flexibility to just move the housing away from the t'stat and pop it out. Note, mine is a manual, and the engine is 2" forward from an automatic, so there may be more room in this case.

P0128 - ECT BELOW THERMOSTAT REGULATING TEMPERATURE (from the 2000 L Series L61 FSM)

Possible causes
*Thermostat stuck open
*Cooling fans always On
*Very low ambient temperatures
*Corrosion in connector or resistance in wiring
*Skewed sensor

The thermostat is in the same location for all ECOTEC 2.2L engines. billysvue's description of its location is correct (although I would drop the "firewall" portion of it). Note that you need to drain the cooling system before removing the water outlet ("thermostat housing" to some) including the water pump drain at the firewall side of the engine. Failing to drain that location will result in a very messy clean up. If you need informaton about how to perform any part of this repair then send a p/m with an email address and I will forward it to you.

BTW, do you have a repair manual of any kind for the car?
