A friend of mine that is into moding out his car pointed out that Jet makes a performance chip for the Saturn L, the web site doesn’t say if it is for the 4 or 6 cylinder engine, but I though I would pass this info on to anyone who is curious. It looks like Jet chips can add 10-20 hp for most cars, but don’t hold me to that. One problem with it though, it requires you to use higher octane gas, I think 91+.

read this article. they tested a Jet chip. SPS and SPC dynoed them in the past on S-series Saturns and found no improvement. the L-series is different so who knows?

I won't claim to understand how it works, but here is the company web site. It has some explanation to how it works.

I noticed they also have one for the SC2. Aside from advancing the timing to use premium fuel is there any other advantage. Also, can you manually advance your timing (say with a timing light) if you already use 93 octane? On my Mustang GT, I advanced the timing to 14 degrees. Anyone know what the optimum setting would be on a SC2?

there's no manual way to adjust the timing on a saturn since there's no distributor to rotate. you'd need something to hack into the pcm to change the timing. or replace the pcm with a tec-2 or motec, etc...
